Summary

Reviiv Design Labs have recently released their flagship product, the MOVE+. This wearable device practices light therapy on the joints and muscles. The red light treatment that MOVE+ offers is supposed to heal tissue and reduce pain. This is accomplished using a combination of LED and Infrared Lights. Different concentrations of wavelengths are accessible depending on the damage. Visible light covers an extensive surface area. Meanwhile, concentrated wavelengths narrow in, “Penetrating up to 6mm below the surface to target deep-seated chronic pain, like Osteoarthritis.” (Nguyen 2022)

The long term validity of this type of treatment is currently unknown. To date, there is still a large portion of ongoing research about its effectiveness. Red light therapy is thought to accelerate cell growth rate within the body. That boost could eventually lead to reproduction and stimulation of skin and collagen. (Cleveland Clinic 2021)

Regardless of the treatment’s functionality, Reviiv has developed an adaptive design that can be operated around virtually any section of the body. This is due in large to the adjustable strap with the ability to tighten around most curvature. MOVE+ is composed of three lasers that are capable of acting in unison or independently.

Analysis

The modularity of the MOVE+ is an especially attractive design aspect. It acts as a universal wearable, which can be advantageous when treating a large scope of people. In the context of my dehydration wearable, a modular, adaptive form could complement a variety of different sports. Each sport has unique uniforms and equipment. Developing a wearable that seamlessly integrates with the current sport attire could be a potential criteria for a successful product. In the worst case scenario, the wearable should at least not become cumbersome or impact play.
