Image going to a concert and seeing an extravagant out-of-this-world set design, all custom made for each performer at each venue. PropDrop is a 3D printing company that utilizes the unique ability to 3D print any geometry or shape and to change it at the drop of a hat. PropDrop also has a built-in industrial grinder that allows you to recycle each prop after the show is over. This drastically reduces costs, waste, and time. Conventional prop design and build are usually very time-consuming, wasteful, and expensive.
PropDrop is a design conjecture that was rooted out of hands-on research of Cincinnati Inc. as well as secondary research about other forms of large-scale additive manufacturing. A rolling stones article stated that ‘Taylor Swift’s Reputation stadium tour needs 52 semis and 30 flatbed trucks just to haul all the gear.’ Cutting down on that and printing some of the stage designs would bring down cost and labor. Concert goers want to be much more immersed in the experience, so artists are spending millions of dollars designing and producing these elaborate designs.
Creating a business model that allows the artists’ team or the venue itself to print the props for said venue would be an interesting topic to dive deeper into.
