The opposite approach of the minimizing but still very active “phone.” Through this design conjecture , I address the idea decreasing phone usage. Instead of advancing forward in the science and technology, we bring it back to a pre-existing idea. Could an old odea provide a new outcome for the realities of today’s society.
Unlike Elon Musk’s Ai Pin that allows you to take the phone out of your pocket and leave at home, you are forced to with the lock box. The difference, it has a titanium exterior and can not be broken. The Ai Pin’s ” goal… was to offer technology that would help people avoid screens and maintain eye contact” (Chen, 2024). My design does the same thing, it just eliminates the whole problem all together. We do not even have the distraction of an Ai machine on our chest talking to us and projecting images. After the small choice of self-discipline to put your phone in the lock box, you then forced to keep your decision for as long as the lock box decides. It opens on a random schedule. You have to rely on technology to get your technology back.
