Lights

“Lighting is, of course, everywhere and I find myself,  like a firefly, instinctively drawn to it.  I have only to see a photograph of an interior and the first thing my eye falls upon is the lighting design. Lighting is essential to the spaces we live in and is one of the most important elements when designing a space. Get it right and a room can come to life, create atmosphere, functionality and style.” (Maria 2016)

Although she is referring to interior lighting I find myself thinking this about light in many circumstances even with products and signs. For me, as someone heavily interested in automotive design the lights are one of the most important contributors on a successful looking design. Custom headlights have been rising in popularity because the new modern LED styles are a big factor in making cars look more modern and sleek.

“Color temperature has a profound impact on our emotions. Because it can influence our mood, comfort, and overall well-being. Let’s explore the psychological effects of different color temperatures:

  1. Warm Light: Warm lighting with lower color temperatures creates a sense of relaxation, comfort, and intimacy. It promotes feelings of warmth, coziness, and can be conducive to winding down after a long day. Warm light is often preferred in residential settings, bedrooms, and spaces where a soothing atmosphere is desired.
  2. Neutral Light: Neutral lighting with moderate color temperatures promotes a sense of balance, focus, and alertness. It closely resembles natural daylight, enhancing visibility and reducing eye strain. It is commonly used in offices, educational institutions, and areas where accurate color perception is important.
  3. Cool Light: Cool lighting with higher color temperatures stimulates alertness, attention, and productivity. It can help combat drowsiness and create a vibrant, energizing atmosphere. Cool light is often utilized in retail spaces, hospitals, and areas where tasks requiring concentration are performed.”(Arvent Light 2023)
Modern Place

This is showing the control that lights have on our emotions. Because we are attracted to lights it makes sense why people make a big deal out of lighting, especially recently in bed rooms. I think that this constitutes for more lighting to be used to create more welcoming environments that are attractive to users.
