Design Conjecture: Drive-In Movie Screening and Discussion Panel

Twice a month, at one of Ohio’s state parks there would be a showing of a movie presented by the motion picture company, Red Nation Films. They are an independent indigenous film studio that makes it their mission to accurately depict Native Americans stories, and amplify their voices. There also would be a panel of people from the cast and Indigenous people from the community there to speak after the film; sharing knowledge about their culture, practices, and experiences. This would involve the following stakeholders: Ohio Department of Natural Resources staff, frequent park visitors, Indigenous people, curious locals from the community.

The primary objective is to use the event to gather the different stakeholders at the state parks to be educated on the history of the land they reside on. This will foster mutual respect and cooperation amongst the groups.

In addition to this there are a few more opportunities the state parks can benefit from. There would be the possibility of an influx of park visitors, the upkeep of the park could improve/mitigation of waste.

The event would be a $20 entry that will be donated to Indigenous tribes and organizations in the area. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources would take care of any additional necessary expenses. Attendees are encouraged and more than welcome to donate to more if they would like.

Pitfalls of this conjecture:

  • Where would funding come to show this screening?
  • Would Indigenous people be comfortable?
  • Entry fee would mean less in attendance.
  • Not everyone has a car.
