“One of the big overarching themes for us has been water connects us all,” Carla Precht, the museum’s founding executive director, said in an interview at the building. The riverfront location means the museum’s programs can easily draw on the natural world.

So do its displays. The project, which cost about $17 million (excluding exhibits and artwork), invites children to construct modular bridges and boats for a 35-foot-long model waterway, build and frolic inside a mock beaver dam and investigate local flora and fauna.”

Analysis:

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. This couldn’t apply more for this article. The Bronx used to have a museum on wheels, but now it has a more permanent location. The interesting thing that I found was the content and medium itself. The kids museum just looked like an educational playground. I have never been to a museum like that before. I think it is super innovative to have a museum that is more hands on. Especially for kids, it is hard to just walk around a big building looking at things that they don’t really understand the significance of. In contrast, a building full of brightly colored displays with hands-on practical learning experiences makes more sense for the demographic. Kids can have fun, but parents can have fun with their kids, too.
