TAB (Triage Wrist Band) is an AI- equipped “apple watch” type device that can determine how critical a condition the injured individual is in. First response can be alerted of the individuals’ location, as well as a “health summary”/ what to be prepared for in order to assist in triage. The device can also direct the injured on different efforts that they can themselves take to ensure their health and safety, making do with what they had in their “pack.”

Analysis:

The issue with logistics within mass casualty situations, specifically regarding triage of rescue, has presented issues when decisions are made and efforts are delegated by human beings. Triage refers to “the sorting of and allocation of treatment to patients and especially battle and disaster victims according to a system of priorities designed to maximize the number of survivors.” This can prove difficult in large scale cases, where may different lives need to be accounted for, and emotions can easily get involved when determining who receives care.

The amount of data that needs to be gathered, organized, analyzed, and used to inform decisions is massive, and in mass casualty situations where multiple injured individuals are competing for limited healthcare resources, rapid decision making and swift action is imperative. By supporting these efforts with AI and machine learning, we are able to face these situations without the emotional bias and tendencies when treating mass injured individuals.

Furthermore, determining the best facilities for individuals to be treated is tricky in large scale situations. Hospitals are not equipped to care for mass amounts of injured individuals, and they lack the staff and equipment to administer proper care. By integrating AI into these facilities, we can easily monitor the distances, bedspace, and equipment inventory to best match the given facilities to the given individual and their needs.
