For this conjecture, the solution I came up with was to create a foldable container for the roof of the car. It could be an attachment or a feature on a newer line of vehicles. The way it incorporates into the artistic aspect is that when folded it could have art printed on it so it can be customized to the user’s preference or could be the same color as the car’s interior. The idea of placing the storage on the roof is to allow extra space. So far in my interview around 30%-40% have issues with unloading or having no room in their car due to it being messy. This way it gives you space from the top down rather than the bottom up, and the zipper and open section may provide ease with unloading.
The reasons it would not be helpful is it seems most efficient only for SUV models smaller cars might not offer as much space to place this. Also in other models, the back of the car is not as open which would also make it much more difficult to implement this. The hope would be that it would be not very bulky but depending on the materiality and weight there might not be a seamless look. It also hinders the driver’s sight which if they aren’t comfortable with not being able to see out of their back window would add to their stress or make it undesirable, as well as if it is placed on the roof it may be difficult for smaller people or the elderly.
