For this conjecture, I wanted to feminize the pickup truck in order to distance the vehicle from its overwhelmingly masculine reputation, as well as link it to car enthusiasts’ love of classic cars. Inspired by the Damsels of Design as well as the current landscape of hyper-masculine car designs and advertising, I’d like for the car to have features that enhance the experience of car ownership for women and be distinctly feminine. One option for a customizable truck bed space is a modular seating set for hosting friends or simply spending time in your car. As the stereotypical woman’s role is in the home, why not treat your truck as another room?
Obviously, this car is designed based on an outdated perception of women, but honestly I wish I had this car. Another problem is that there would have to be a way to secure the coffee table during travel. Although there are more opportunities for women today than ever before and we don’t have to adhere to such a strict definition of femininity anymore as in the 1950’s, I do love seeing traditional femininity as a strength and channeling the aesthetic of a problematic time into something empowering and fun. This design is so far off from what exists in the market today, as the charming look of classic cars is no longer in fashion and women are not marketed to as often. I’d love to see something this explicitly feminine be made.
