My focus and goal with the survey was to receive a base of insights that would guide me along the rest of my primary research endeavors. Insights I hoped to gain from my survey questions were generally about student athletes at The Ohio State University and their financial well-being in context of their collegiate careers. From early on I landed on my target demographic being student athletes at The Ohio State University, but I wasn’t sure how to go about recruiting. My plan changed directions multiple times through this recruiting process. I originally sent it out digitally to the few student athletes that I knew personally, but ran into a couple speed bumps in recruiting any more than the few I knew. I then went on to send the survey to all Ohio State Athletic teams social medias, to no avail. Then I began to try and find athletes across campus and ask them in person. This was where I had my best success and ended with a number and variety I’m happy with.
In reflection of my survey I have a couple takeaways. One is that few of my athletes, 5 out of 14, have any NIL deals. In contrast to that takeaway though I found that all athletes said that they were given resources to obtain NIL deals. Lastly, one of the greatest insights is that out of the athletes I surveyed 14 of the responses had either athletics or eduction at last in their priority rankings.
