Design Conjecture: Financial Art-Visor

The Financial Art-Visor is a digital financial budget advisor disguised as a picture frame. This device connects to your phone and tracks all your online or in-store purchases to help give you the best advice toward spending within your personalized budget. As you scroll through your online shopping and add items to your cart, the device will call out advice on the spot about how that item fits within your budget and will display any new items suggested. The picture frame design allows you to hang the device anywhere in your house to seamlessly blend it into your decor and thus your daily routine. When not in use, it will display artworks your bank has invested in as a nod towards their involvement in the art industry.

The main points I took from my Arts section were simple UI designs, the significance of banking in our daily lives tied to the want for efficiency, and banks’ investments in the art industry. By integrating the device into art, something that people see every day, it was my attempt at designing to encourage people to recognize that banking is part of their daily routines. The accessibility from being on the wall makes it efficient, which is something customer service strives for. However, its constant advice can be bothersome. The concept brings out the idea that people may want access to help 24/7 but don’t want to be helped 24/7. Also, noting the practicality of the device and its likelihood for people actually to use it is important to take away.
