Here I dive into an interview that one of my best friends and CEO of Da Bomb Brownies: Mason Fisher did with Good Morning Texas.
Da Bomb Brownies “About Us” Website Excerpt
“We’re passionate about brownies, and we don’t mind shouting it out so the whole world can hear us! Our Brownie Company was founded in 2017 by Mason Fisher, who as a sophomore in high school, started selling brownies out of his locker to help raise money to buy a car. We’ve been committed to serving up delicious brownies to all of our customers ever since.” (Fisher, n.d.)

“Good Morning Texas” Interview Transcript*
“Well in my household there’s a rule, my parents won’t buy your first car for you, but they’ll match you dollar for dollar. So when it came my turn to start looking at cars, we looked at a couple of options within my budget and I quickly realized that I was not going to be able to get a newer car with more safety features, so I had to start brainstorming. We shot a couple of ideas and eventually my mom suggested the idea of being an entrepreneur. So the question was, “what would I sell?” I wanted to sell something that was unique and that my classmates couldn’t get anywhere else. So that ruled out things like chips and cookies and candy. So that’s how we landed on brownies.
The biggest lesson that I’ve learned is really just being adaptable and being flexible. The one thing in my journey that I realized is you can’t predict what’s going to happen so being prepared and being flexible is really important for being successful.
It’s super important for people to support black owned businesses. Starting out on average, black owned businesses have less access to capital and resources, so making sure you go out and support these businesses is super important to ensuring that they are successful and that they can thrive.” (wfaa.com, 2024).

REVIEW
This is my friend Mason talking about his business “Da Bomb Brownies” that he started when he was 13 years old. Now it’s a flourishing company that he runs out of his house in Plano, Texas with almost 200 5 star reviews on Google. I found that being a young entrepreneur was an interesting concept to delve into because it stresses the impact that both the kid and their parents have on a child growing up. The child has the ability and ambition to make whole functioning businesses, but it is much easier and almost necessary to have parental support. Parents supporting both financially, but more important emotionally. This concept allowed Mason to develop autonomy over himself and money, while learning about a career path much earlier than the majority of people would. It’s super cool to see what kids are capable of, and I think reminding myself that while working on my project and thinking of the importance of relationship building and supportive relationships can aid in my project. That motivation to do something can work, if the right factors are involved.
(I also want to add that I met Mason on Minecraft at around 13 years old when he started this, so it wasn’t like he wasn’t doing kid things too!)
