When researching the city of Dayton, I found there are various initiatives aimed toward encouraging the community to use bikes as a mode of transportation. The health and productivity benefits associated with the cycling provide an exciting opportunity to explore the combination of bicycles and communal workspaces. The city of Dayton offers multiple resources for individuals who choose to ride bikes such as bike racks, cycling lanes, and bike rentals. I think taking into account community trends would be a good method of approach because it will help to sustain current infrastructure as well as include individuals who partake in the city’s bike riding amenities. In exploring this concept I think I can develop an ecologically mindful design for outdoor co-workers, while promoting an activity that is already accessible to members of the community. Lastly, the historical significance of the Wright Cycling Company being the former occupant of the space helps to frame a meaningful approach, and honor the Wright brothers legacy. I think it will be interesting to research the attitudes and behaviors toward biking to work and/or cycling while you work to refine the scope of the project.
