How do staff identify which individuals are suffering from debilitating isolation? It can be especially difficult if an individual is cognitively impaired, or eager to display signs of independence. In an assisted living situation, individuals likely have either a studio or one bedroom living environment. There is technology in place to prevent and monitor when a resident falls, but there is no infrastructure or data tracking device that gives staff any indication of isolation or loneliness. How many individuals are suffering from worsening mental, emotional, and cognitive health without being noticed?
Peace of Mind is meant to act as a net to catch those individuals in a systematic manner that may fall through the cracks before their health declines permanently as a result of it. Technology is implemented in their dining trays and gathers data relating to how often the individual moves about the room, leaves, eats meals, talks on the phone, or watches tv. This data is then presented in a way that allows staff to analyze patterns or consistent declines in behavior that would alert staff of concern. Peace of Mind’s goal is to put caregivers in a proactive mindset, rather than a retroactive one.
