{"id":9953,"date":"2022-09-01T11:36:45","date_gmt":"2022-09-01T15:36:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/desis.osu.edu\/seniorthesis\/?p=9953"},"modified":"2022-09-01T11:38:02","modified_gmt":"2022-09-01T15:38:02","slug":"ellevest-woman-first-financial-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/desis.osu.edu\/seniorthesis\/index.php\/2022\/09\/01\/ellevest-woman-first-financial-company\/","title":{"rendered":"Ellevest &#8211; Women first financial company &#8211; Goals of women"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I appreciate this quote from an article on the Ellevest website &#8220;There is no such thing as \u201cgender neutral\u201d financial services or choices in an industry that was built by men, for men.\u00a0<strong>Ellevest was built from the ground up using real, hard data about women\u2019s lived realities<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 they get\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ellevest.com\/magazine\/disrupt-money\/closing-the-gender-pay-gap\" target=\"_blank\">paid less<\/a>,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.payscale.com\/data\/peak-earnings\" target=\"_blank\">stop getting raises<\/a>\u00a0a whole decade earlier,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/content\/dam\/Census\/library\/publications\/2020\/demo\/p25-1145.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">live longer<\/a>, pay the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/sonia-thompson\/women-are-charged-100000-more-for-same-products-as-men-heres-what-you-can-do-to-stop-it.html\" target=\"_blank\">pink tax<\/a>, have more\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ellevest.com\/magazine\/manage-debt\/closing-the-gender-debt-gap\" target=\"_blank\">debt<\/a>, do more\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/02\/11\/upshot\/gender-roles-housework.html\" target=\"_blank\">unpaid labor<\/a>, get fewer\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2010\/09\/why-men-still-get-more-promotions-than-women\" target=\"_blank\">promotions<\/a>\u00a0\u2026 and so on.\u00a0&#8221; https:\/\/www.ellevest.com\/magazine\/raising-elle\/why-for-women<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Feels good to feel validated on the impossibility of an existing gender-neutral financial service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s some of their research I am going to use &#8211; &#8220;Here\u2019s the thing: Women like money. They want to earn money on their investments. But what we heard from the women we spoke to was that they\u2019re less concerned about trying to \u201cbeat the market\u201d or earning\u00a0<em>above-average<\/em>\u00a0returns. It\u2019s much more likely that they\u2019re investing toward a certain goal \u2014 retirement, a down payment on a house, etc \u2014 and that their biggest concern is making it as likely as possible that they\u2019ll have enough money for that goal at the time they need it.&#8221; &#8211; good to know that Women have specific goals they want to reach &#8211; I have noticed this trend in other resources made specifically for women &#8211; they want to be proactive, ready for weddings and families and owning a house. This is so different that the more neutral or masculine sites that are focused on the the competition and grandiosity of investing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Should we be okay with women just stopping at goal setting? It makes me a little mad. This is a personal issue, but I don&#8217;t like that women are looking ahead and making these goals while men are &#8216;getting ahead&#8217; and being a little riskier with a greater return. <strong>How can we make women more concerned with beating the market? How can we get women to enjoy the investing game<\/strong> in a completely personal way?
