{"id":4582,"date":"2020-09-09T22:18:47","date_gmt":"2020-09-09T22:18:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/desis.osu.edu\/seniorthesis\/?p=4582"},"modified":"2020-09-09T22:20:48","modified_gmt":"2020-09-09T22:20:48","slug":"no-fixed-address","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/desis.osu.edu\/seniorthesis\/index.php\/2020\/09\/09\/no-fixed-address\/","title":{"rendered":"NO FIXED ADDRESS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dadaa.org.au\/gallery\/no-fixed-address\/\">An Event hosted by DADAA<\/a> (Freemantle WA, Australia)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking up themes of resilience, adaptation and displacement,&nbsp;<em>No Fixed Address<\/em>&nbsp;is a collaborative project between DADAA, Perth contemporary artists, filmmakers and the St Pat\u2019s community, based in Fremantle\u2019s East End.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The East End of Fremantle is an area undergoing rapid gentrification. At the centre of this changing landscape sits&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/stpats.com.au\/\">St Patrick\u2019s Community Support Centre<\/a>&nbsp;(St Pat\u2019s), an NGO, which for the past 40 years has supported those who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Developed over the past year,\u00a0<em>No Fixed Address<\/em>\u00a0explores survival tactics, social rituals and ways of moving within and occupying public space as strategies to subvert environmental and economic precarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carpe Noctem Walking Tour<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The streets after dark are places of adventure and wonder. Let\u2019s make them ours!\u00a0Carpe Noctem is a night walking group created by artist Janet Carter. Presented for\u00a0<em>No Fixed Address,\u00a0<\/em>these walking tours through Fremantle\u2019s East End will address our fears of walking at night and question who has the right to occupy our urban spaces after dark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Object for Anti-Gentrification<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on duck hunting blinds and bunkers, tactics artist Tanya Lee learned from the St Pat\u2019s community, and in opposition to many of the CPTED (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crime_prevention_through_environmental_design\">Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design<\/a>) principles employed by city councils, this temporary public artwork playfully antagonises the dynamics of gentrification and the changing streetscape of Fremantle\u2019s East End.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Analysis<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea of &#8220;playful antagonisation of the dynamics of gentrification&#8221; is really interesting, and I think it could be a thoughtful approach to using art to combat gentrification in the Short North.
