Not\nonly spoiling the natural beauty of our beaches and oceans, the rubber soles\nare swallowed &amp; suffocated on by fish &amp; other animals, they obstruct\nturtle hatchlings from reaching the sea and are a man-made menace to our\nfragile ecosystems,&#8221; states Ocean Sole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ncompany collects the flip-flops \u2014 including paying people who bring in what\nthey&#8217;ve collected \u2014 and transforms them into art while providing a livelihood\nfor local people. Providing a living for the artists who work for Ocean Sole is\njust as important to the company as its environmental message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company is all about cleaning up\npollution, and that extends to their zero-waste policy. The waste from the\nsculptures is collected and used as flooring for kids&#8217; playgrounds, and they\neven&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mnn.com\/your-home\/at-home\/stories\/learn-how-to-harvest-rainwater\">collect rainwater<\/a>&nbsp;to use in their production. Other materials\nneeded for the sculptures and packaging are also recycled goods, including\nbuying rubber off-cuts from shoe companies, buying recycled beads from local\nsuppliers, and buying used netting to use as packaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Analysis:\nThis article shows a creative way to reuse old flipflops, keeping them out of\nour ocean and out of landfills.
