Old\nshoes, collected through the company\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/help-en-eu.nike.com\/app\/answers\/detail\/a_id\/39600\/p\/3897\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reuse-A-Shoe<\/a>\nprogram, are sliced into three parts and then ground into rubber bits, foam or\na fluffy fiber. Besides using the materials in the company\u2019s own products, Nike\nsells them to buyers who use them to line running tracks, playgrounds, gym and\nweight room floors and carpet underlay.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To demonstrate that its\ncommitment to a waste-free system is more than a publicity play, the company\nannounced on Wednesday a partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the\nBritish nonprofit dedicated to building a so-called \u201ccircular economy.\u201d That\nconcept, which essentially emulates nature, means reforming the entire\nindustrial system to recycle waste and eliminate pollution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Analysis: This article shows how big businesses are\ntrying to become more sustainable. Nike uses excess materials that are usually discarded\nin their facilities and reusable materials from old shoes to make new shoes.
