{"id":14621,"date":"2023-08-28T22:57:30","date_gmt":"2023-08-29T02:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/desis.osu.edu\/seniorthesis\/?p=14621"},"modified":"2023-09-30T23:40:11","modified_gmt":"2023-10-01T03:40:11","slug":"freshdirect-but-make-it-fashion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/desis.osu.edu\/seniorthesis\/index.php\/2023\/08\/28\/freshdirect-but-make-it-fashion\/","title":{"rendered":"FreshDirect, but Make It Fashion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When the grocery delivery company stopped taking back its bags during the pandemic, some people used their stashes to make purses, journals and works of art<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As her leather supply depleted in 2020, Ms. Parker started to experiment with a medium that by then had become more plentiful at her Queens apartment: the colorful plastic totes used to deliver groceries from FreshDirect, which feature the company\u2019s logo surrounded by produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms. Parker began by slicing the FreshDirect bags into pieces. With those scraps, she made a handful of purses and small pouches using techniques including plaiting, macram\u00e9 and sashiko, a form of Japanese embroidery. \u201cI\u2019m a FreshDirect artist,\u201d said Ms. Parker, who is selling some of the purses for $899 on her&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/riveting.nyc\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>. \u201cI didn\u2019t mean to be, but the bags called to me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As more people turned to grocery delivery during the pandemic, others also started using FreshDirect bags as material for design projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>_______________________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>As a seamstress myself I find it interesting when I see people create fashion from non traditional materials, additionally it\u2019s interesting way to combat material waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>_______________________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Source: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quinlan, A.
