Through this first assignment, students were asked to ethnographically describe two cases of familiar household behaviors. For the first case, students self-reported on a familiar habit behavior of their own. The second case focused on a person unknown to them and from a different population. Before engaging in fieldwork research, students were required to develop a research design presenting the objects and subjects of the study, methods, and variables and key indicators. The objective of the activity was not to look for design problems, but learn how to provide thick descriptions of ordinary realities. Through this assignment, students learned how to see the extraordinary in the ordinary.
